The Bluebells of Chechnya

I’m so happy to have my non-fiction piece ‘The Bluebells of Chechnya’ published in the first ever edition of The Belfast Review.

In this piece of writing, I celebrate the beauty of bluebells, whilst exploring the Hyacinth myth and relating that back to my lived experience of queer life in Russia, as well as my response to the documentary ‘Welcome to Chechnya

I’m addressing my concerns about who will tell the stories of queer people, in places like Russia and Chechnya, which are otherwise hostile to the blossoming of queer life.

You can read the story online at the following link – it’s a PDF document and my bluebells start on page 37: https://thebelfastreview.wixsite.com/home/issues
